Cape Town Digest - food, wine, and places to stay
|
| Cape Town Digest is the official propaganda wing of Holiday Rentals Cape Town, www.rentalscapetown.com. We live in Cape Town and love it and want to tell you about what we get up to and what's good about our town so that you'll come and visit it.
Going out to good restaurants, discovering great fresh produce, bread, meat, cheeses and wine; visiting the areas around Cape Town that lovingly farm and produce this stuff are what we like doing a lot. |

Cape Town Apartments - the cooler alternative to hotel accommodation |
Cape Town Apartments – the cooler alternative to hotel accommodationA Cape Town apartment is the intelligent accommodation choice when on holiday in Cape Town. A self catering vacation rental is liberating and cost effective – you’re self sufficient, private with access to everything you can wish for in Cape Town accomodation. A lot of apartments (or flats / condos) are equipped with air-conditioning and under floor heating and are very stylishly decorated. So you’re getting 4 to 5 star accommodation for a lot less. Take a 4 star hotel – the summer rate for a double room is normally around R2600 – R3000. You could stay in a very good stylish vacation rental probably with better views at R1500 per night or less. The only difference is that there’s no room service available. But with your own full kitchen (microwave, hob, refrigerator and dishwasher) its easy to whip something up or re-heat something from the deli around the corner. If doing your own thing or going out to a restaurant really doesn’t appeal to you there are also delivery services like Mr Delivery so you can eat in easily. Probably also at a fraction of the cost. Most apartments available for short term vacation rental in Cape Town cater for the tourist and corporate market. The beds and mattresses are of hotel quality and the linen and towels pure cotton - crisp and white. The décor in a holiday or corporate apartment is normally also more stylish than boring hotel vanilla. You normally also have laundry facilities like a washing machine and tumble drier so laundry becomes so much easier to deal with. Everything from towels to linen, toilet paper and guest toiletries is supplied. All you really need are your clothes and some supplies in the fridge. The best and most cost effective apartments are located in De Waterkant (buildings like The Rockwell and Metropolis), the Foreshore – (buildings like Icon, Canal Quays), Cape Town 's CBD (buildings like Green Market Place) which is in the midst of all the action and tourist attractions. If you’ve got a larger budget then the V&A Waterfront definitely makes the Apartment Cape Town A-list. The security here is excellent. All of the blocks mentioned above have underground parking and good security in place. The V&A Waterfront does tend to have 24 hour manned security in place though. Holiday Rentals Cape Town has vacation rentals in all these areas and will give good discounts for stays of 1 week or more. Also look for good deals in winter when the rates are at their lowest. We are always happy to give a discount in order to get the booking. Whether you decide to stay in The Rockwell or the V&A Waterfront it will be at least 50% better than a hotel and at least 50% cheaper. Which makes 100% difference. Stay in a Cape Town apartment – the cooler accommodation option.

Foraging for ideas at the Bandwidth Barn
Just “stepping out” from the Idea Workshop at the Bandwidth Barn in Cape Town. 3 gruelling days of school and instant coffee. Why do Rose and I subject ourselves to this? Because holiday accommodation isn’t just about comfy beds and views of sugar white beaches from decks of exotic timber. Its about silicon, high tech, [...]

Perfect Sea Point morning
An appointment to see a Sea Point studio on the beach front went awry so we ended up sitting here sipping coffee from polystyrene coffee cups at the the tent of coffee and all day breakfast next to the Sea Point Pavilion. Wonder at the almost real time nature of the photograph. Just a 5 [...]

One Off White
Well we weren’t going to drink anything tonight (being a Sunday night we try to be fresh for Monday even though we work from home). But unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately as I really enjoyed it – we decided to have a glass. Another well priced option – this time One Off White from Woolworths – [...]
