It's inspiring natural beauty makes Cape Town a natural choice for a romantic holiday. Firstly you would need to find some romantic Cape Town accommodation – go for a luxury apartment at the V&A Waterfront, trendy De Waterkant apartments, or Camps Bay luxury holiday apartments and villas or Clifton beach villas. Once you’ve got your accommodation sorted out you can start planning your Cape Town holiday - here are some ideas to enhance that feeling of togetherness: Robben Island: Take the ferry to Robben Island, feel the sea breeze whip around your faces while you hold each other tightly. The atmosphere of history and suffering of Robben Island will result in an enhanced feeling of happiness to have each other. When you get back to the Waterfront cheer yourself up with a slap up lunch at one of the many restaurants with a view of the picturesque bobbing fishing boats – Robben Island booking tel 021 413 4200.  Go luging at Tygervally opposite the Bellville Velodrome - remember the movie Cool Runnings – this is the same but without the snow. The luge is 1.5km of pure adrenalin – feel the wind blow in your face, lean into the curves, fly down the straights. Afterwards seal the experience with wine and dinner at closeby Zibaldone (situated on the edge of a lake at the Tygervalley Waterfront). Picnic with a difference: Don’t forget the picnic – it’s always a good romantic standby. Go to Melissas (tel 021 424 5540 ) or Giovannis Deliworld (tel 021 434-6893) and pick yourself some nice parma ham, ciabatta, camembert and champagne (we call it Cap Classique). Either take a drive to Llundudno and find a spot on the side of the road with good views of the ocean and lovely sunsets etc. Or got to Chapmans Peak Drive further afield (after Hout Bay) and drive along the road keeping your eyes peeled for a good stop off points which are aplenty . Other good picnic spots are Rhodes Memorial (that old philanderer of the 19th century who contributed a lot to the Cape).  Otherwise go for a nearby wine estate like Groot Constantia (Simons sell pre-packed picnic baskets – tel 021 794 7724) or Diemersdal close to Durbanville where you can take your own picnic and use their rolling green lawn and drink their wine – tel +27 21 976 3361). They are well know for their Pinotage – its excellent and a personal favourite. If you’re are inclined towards all things equestrian go for a horse ride on Noordhoek beach - Imhoff Equestrian Centre (tel 082 7741191) will oblige. Look out for the skeleton of the Kakapo, which is buried in the sand of Noordhoek Beach - it ran aground in 1900 – the skipper turned too soon as he thought he was rounding Cape Point. Afterwards go for a wonderful draught beer and pizza at the Red Herring in Noordhoek (tel 021 7891783 ). On the other side of the mountain from Noordhoek is the little fishing village of Kalk Bay. Go for a romantic walk around the small scenic harbour, home to all shapes and sizes of fishing boats – make sure you have a stomach for fishy smells. Go for dinner in Harbour House and watch the waves break meters away. There are a few good restaurants here – choose between Harbour House (smart restaurant upstairs), Polana (tapas downstairs) or Live Bait (casual fish n chip type restaurant). By the end of your romantic Cape Town holiday you should have found ample opportunity to ask the important question and Cape Town will occupy a special place in your memories forever. |
