Cape Town Digest - food, wine, and places to stay
|
| Cape Town Digest is the official propaganda wing of Holiday Rentals Cape Town, www.rentalscapetown.com. We live in Cape Town and love it and want to tell you about what we get up to and what's good about our town so that you'll come and visit it.
Going out to good restaurants, discovering great fresh produce, bread, meat, cheeses and wine; visiting the areas around Cape Town that lovingly farm and produce this stuff are what we like doing a lot. |

Bread, Pastries and Pies of the Deep South: Olympia BakeryOlympia Bakery - 134 Main Rd, Kalk Bay, 021 7886396 By Zeus, a coffee in a big paper cup, a fresh, buttery, hazlenutty, big, holy danish, and a comfy window stool with a view of a car park and an oblique view of the cute yet fishy Kalk Bay Harbour.
For 15 or 20 minutes I am a complete human: gone are the frailties and uncertainties that were hovering over me like a personal low pressure system. Even my cardigan seems prouder, less acrylic. Forget about the sit-down Olympia next door with the well heeled Southern suburbanites, the garagey bakery outlet round the corner is the discerning dough eater's choice. Just look at the pictures. I also got 6 pies: beef, chicken and butternut & gorgonzola for everyone of the Philadelphia household. And some of their ciabattas that can be eaten in one sitting, with just the right amount of chew & air. I might even find my hand ripping pieces off one and feeding me as I drive on home. Don't be a fool, go to this bakery often before you die. Laden with baked goods, he sprang aboard his go fast boat, gunned its engine and hurtled out of Kalk Bay's sleepy harbour. Adios, Stranger. |

Foraging for ideas at the Bandwidth Barn
Just “stepping out” from the Idea Workshop at the Bandwidth Barn in Cape Town. 3 gruelling days of school and instant coffee. Why do Rose and I subject ourselves to this? Because holiday accommodation isn’t just about comfy beds and views of sugar white beaches from decks of exotic timber. Its about silicon, high tech, [...]

Perfect Sea Point morning
An appointment to see a Sea Point studio on the beach front went awry so we ended up sitting here sipping coffee from polystyrene coffee cups at the the tent of coffee and all day breakfast next to the Sea Point Pavilion. Wonder at the almost real time nature of the photograph. Just a 5 [...]

One Off White
Well we weren’t going to drink anything tonight (being a Sunday night we try to be fresh for Monday even though we work from home). But unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately as I really enjoyed it – we decided to have a glass. Another well priced option – this time One Off White from Woolworths – [...]
