Cape Town Digest - food, wine, and places to stay
|
| Cape Town Digest is the official propaganda wing of Holiday Rentals Cape Town, www.rentalscapetown.com. We live in Cape Town and love it and want to tell you about what we get up to and what's good about our town so that you'll come and visit it.
Going out to good restaurants, discovering great fresh produce, bread, meat, cheeses and wine; visiting the areas around Cape Town that lovingly farm and produce this stuff are what we like doing a lot. |

The Stranger at The House of PastaHouse of Pasta, 18 Long St, Cape Town, 021 419 6975 / 135 Long St, Cape Town, 021 422 5099What made me stop and look at this blackboard in a jungle of blackboards.

Perhaps it was the heightened awareness brought on by the relief of getting out of Wale St Chambers where I (pick plausible option): a) run a small private investigation business b) am carrying out a Dreary Building Syndrome assessment c) was putting myself through a high G-force test on the cruelly spiraling parkade ramp. Or was it the rotten spelling? Written perhaps by the flour-encrusted hand of an Italian master noodle maker: speaks English good but spells it bad. Usually, seeing poor spelling in the only language you can comfortably read renders the message poor and malnourished. Yet the story coming out of this board – the eternal conflict between good and evil as personified by the vendor of hand-made and wholesome food versus the horned and pointy tailed industrial effluent for consumption machine – was given impact by its colourful clumsiness. People of the World, practice your spelling and unite: spare your digestion the empty calories of Coca Cola, KFC, Special K and Nandos. Rally at the entrance to the House of Pasta. |

Foraging for ideas at the Bandwidth Barn
Just “stepping out” from the Idea Workshop at the Bandwidth Barn in Cape Town. 3 gruelling days of school and instant coffee. Why do Rose and I subject ourselves to this? Because holiday accommodation isn’t just about comfy beds and views of sugar white beaches from decks of exotic timber. Its about silicon, high tech, [...]

Perfect Sea Point morning
An appointment to see a Sea Point studio on the beach front went awry so we ended up sitting here sipping coffee from polystyrene coffee cups at the the tent of coffee and all day breakfast next to the Sea Point Pavilion. Wonder at the almost real time nature of the photograph. Just a 5 [...]

One Off White
Well we weren’t going to drink anything tonight (being a Sunday night we try to be fresh for Monday even though we work from home). But unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately as I really enjoyed it – we decided to have a glass. Another well priced option – this time One Off White from Woolworths – [...]
