Cape Town Digest - food, wine, and places to stay
|
| Cape Town Digest is the official propaganda wing of Holiday Rentals Cape Town, www.rentalscapetown.com. We live in Cape Town and love it and want to tell you about what we get up to and what's good about our town so that you'll come and visit it.
Going out to good restaurants, discovering great fresh produce, bread, meat, cheeses and wine; visiting the areas around Cape Town that lovingly farm and produce this stuff are what we like doing a lot. |

The Peppertree - Village of Philadelphia 40km from Cape Town Yes, we had made it within the breakfast deadline of 11:30 and Rose was going to go for a breakfast biscuit when she realised that the splendour of my mince and scrambled egg on toast order was going dwarf her more diminutive choice. Who want's an English breakfast compacted into a pellet anyway?
When they get the coffee right at the Pepper Tree it is good: strong, bitter-nutty, alive: right out of a decade old 2 headed manual Astoria machine. 2 plates of mince, scrambled eggs and toatst arrived: the toast was a mixture of white and brown as requested, the mince was fine quality beef, the eggs were carefully scrambled. The jam and marmalade was out of a jar hand made by a local tannie. Each of these cost R25 and the coffee was well under R10 a cup. That's quality and value that only a few places in the whole of Cape Town or its wineland cousins of Stellenbosch, Paarl or Franschhoek can match. Well done , Pepper Tree. Well done, funny little Philadelphia. For accommodation in Philadelphia email

Foraging for ideas at the Bandwidth Barn
Just “stepping out” from the Idea Workshop at the Bandwidth Barn in Cape Town. 3 gruelling days of school and instant coffee. Why do Rose and I subject ourselves to this? Because holiday accommodation isn’t just about comfy beds and views of sugar white beaches from decks of exotic timber. Its about silicon, high tech, [...]

Perfect Sea Point morning
An appointment to see a Sea Point studio on the beach front went awry so we ended up sitting here sipping coffee from polystyrene coffee cups at the the tent of coffee and all day breakfast next to the Sea Point Pavilion. Wonder at the almost real time nature of the photograph. Just a 5 [...]

One Off White
Well we weren’t going to drink anything tonight (being a Sunday night we try to be fresh for Monday even though we work from home). But unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately as I really enjoyed it – we decided to have a glass. Another well priced option – this time One Off White from Woolworths – [...]
